Regrettable Records

One of the joys of digging through second-hand shops, charity shops and antique centres is finding some seriously strange old vinyl records. Nestled amongst the crumbling Tom Jones, Mantovani or James Last albums you can often find bizarre offerings like these. Sarah is now becoming thoroughly tired of me charging past the racks of old tat to cry "Look at this!" and show her yet another horror show of an album cover, often featuring some deranged-looking "stars" of yesteryear. Quite often my main thought is "Who the hell thought this was a good look?" Anyway, Dear Reader, I hope you enjoy these vinyl vagaries from the fringes of good taste and sanity. The last one is dedicated to my old blog buddy, David Rose, of Gig Diaries fame - I never knew he had a recording career :-)

And I always thought Blue Peter was boring...

I should have been paying more attention.

Here's a clip somebody posted recently on Twitter ( sorry, Blogspot, it's nothing personal ) from perennial BBC kids' magazine show Blue Peter, showing presenter Maggie Philbin and others discussing the manufacture and history of the corset. Leading of course, to Maggie modelling a corset with the added bonus of stockings and high heels. On a kids' TV show. The mind boggles. It's certainly something that would never happen today... but.... it was obviously acceptable in the '80s, to borrow a phrase from Calvin Harris.

It's strange but I don't think I've ever thought about Maggie Philbin's legs before - and now I've been thinking about them all week.

Lockdown shelf porn ( not actual porn )

During this lockdown we've all become accustomed to seeing newsreaders, celebrities and the like on our televisions, broadcasting from their homes, often with some ostentatiously-positioned books on their bookshelves behind them. These bookshelves often look unbelievably tidy and organised and, in reaction, some ( ordinary ) people have taken to posting photos of their untidy, un-posed shelves too. Never one to miss a pointless trend, I've jumped on the shelf porn bandwagon and so here are just some of my books, with some random Doctor Who DVDs thrown in as a bonus.
