Joe Strummer in black and white

Incredibly, it's now 9 years since we lost the great Joe Strummer.

"All we want to achieve is an atmosphere where things can happen, to keep the spirit of the free world alive. We want to keep out that safe, soapy slush that comes out of the radio. "

"All we've got is a few guitars, amps and drums. That's our weaponry..."

"Well so long liberty, let's forget you didn't show
Not in my time
But in our sons and daughters' time..."

"White youth, black youth, better find another solution
Why not phone up Robin Hood and ask him for some wealth distribution?"

RIP Joe Strummer 21/08/52 - 22/12/02

The future is unwritten

Thought you might like to see this post on an NYC blog today...he's still remembered here!

Yeah, that's pretty cool, Richard! Thanks for the link.

BTW excuse my ignorance, but how do you post a link within the comments section? I've never figured that out...

You're not ignorant, it just happens that a long time ago I had to learn how to do all this stuff the old fashioned way, by hand. Kids today with their Tumblrs and Facebooklets, they don't even know they're born...

Anyway -- it's the same HTML as used to make a link anywhere else on a web page, using the "a href=" tag. Instructions can be found here. This method works on Blogger. Other systems like WordPress and LiveJournal use different formatting, and some are set up to prevent clickable links in the comments section altogether, presumably to prevent comment spam.

Thanks Richard! I'll have to give it a try... but you know what they say about trying to teach an old dog new tricks :-)

Nine years? Wow. Hard to believe. I'd love to hear his take on the Occupy movements of late...RIP, Joe. You opened my eyes to a lot of stuff and I love you for it. Always. <3

Thanks for the heartfelt comment, Mickey. Joe is missed by a lot of people. I can easily picture him at the Occupy protests, busking for the protesters.
