According to the
NME legendary Newport venue, TJ's, is due to shut for financial reasons. Although always a bit of a dive, over the years the venue played host to such bands as Nirvana, the Manics, Oasis, Joe Strummer, Green Day and er, the Death Planet Commandos. Sadly that means there's one less independent rock venue in the world not owned by O2, Carling, Mc.Donald's etc.

same problems everywhere...
Blimey - was a dive but another venue sadly lost. Remember the sellout gig we played there!!!!
It's a shame. I blame all those shit metal bands they're always putting on. I think I've only been there about twice in the last 2 years or so (the Adolescents and Agent Orange - both great shows in a great venue. It might be a dive, but that's what you want for a good punk gig)
I never went to many gigs there ( part of the problem? ) but I'll always remember the singer from Poison Idea "helping" a heckler out the door, the DPC's great gig there with a band called Gone To Earth ( Pogues/punk ) and our "sellout" gig, as Glenn calls it, when only 2 men and a dog showed up. Which band were you in at the time, Glenn - was it Victims Of Emotion? I think we both deserved a better audience :-)
