Hi Steve! It's a lovely set indeed, and absolutely massive. I thought first of all that the ceiling etc. may be CGI, but the behind-the-scenes show Doctor Who Unleashed showed the whole set being built in all its glory. I've got a slight reservation that I think it may be *too* big really ( feels more like Star Trek than Who ), but what do I know? ;-)
Yeah, the Tardis interior seemed a bit overdone to me too, Simon. But old style Who budgets won't cut it in the 21st century - these days tv science-fiction has to put money on the screen - so thats really my problem rather than the programme's.
But did you enjoy the episode? I thought it was political correctness gone mad! Which is ok by me, but unfortunately it was rather formulaic too. To be fair though, it was an opening episode and they haven't ever been among the she's best imo, so the jury's still out.
Hi Sean, sorry for the late reply. I certainly enjoyed the episode: it was fun, if formulaic, and it was great to see Donna back again. My main issue is that, apart from window-dressing, this story could have quite easily slotted into the 2008 season and nobody would have noticed. Last night's episode, however, felt more modern and was a lot stranger and creepier, so was more up my street. Typically for me, I intended to review The Star Beast soon after transmission but didn't get on with it. I'll probably wait until the third special has aired then review the lot. Bet you can't wait ;-)
The second one was definitely an improvement (and without even having to get ideas from old comics by Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons). I'm never going to be completely into a Dr Who story with Catherine Tate - sorry, but she has to be the most annoying companion since at least Bonnie Langford - but it did give cause for optimism once Davies leaves the '00s behind and gets onto the properly new stuff.

It's a beautiful set and the scene where the Doctor runs around inside it was definitely my favourite moment of the episode.

I look forward to it, Simon. Honest.

"Most annoying companion since at least Bonnie Langford" you say? You're going to love the next season ;-)
