@Joe: We're staying at the Royal National Hotel, off Russell Square. It looks like a big 1970's lump of concrete, but is in a handy location :-)
@Saranga: I'm thinking of checking out Gosh!, Mighty World Of Comicana and Book & Comic Exchange, and avoiding Forbidden Planet if poss. Any suggestions are welcome!
haven't been there in some time - I haven't lived in London for about ten years now - but I used to frequent Mega City Comics in Inverness Street, which was pretty cool. they used to do a big selection of indie-produced stuff ( this was when indie-produced stuff meant: knocked up on a photo-copier ), and old UK comics. like I say, that was ten years ago, so I don't know what it's like now, but you could always used the trip as an excuse to spend a day dragging yourself 'round Camden Market, and you really don't want to go to London and NOT visit Camden Market.
Oh, lucky you! One of my fondest memories of my first trip to London was walking up out of the Tube at Westminster (I don't recall if that was the actual stop) and looking up and up and up and thinking, "Holy shit, that *is* Big Ben in front of me, isn't it?" Have a grand time and say hi to her for me, tell her I miss her. ;-)
Thanks for the comments, guys. I also remember getting off at that station for the first time and seeing Big Ben looming overhead - very impressive!
Looking forward to seeing the sights and showing the kids how exciting a capital city can be. Expect a few photos on this 'ere blog in a couple of weeks :-)

Orbital comcis is a great shop. Freindly staff, central location, tons of back issues and they often have example (signed) artwork on the walls too.
ReplyDeleteJust make sure you go the Newport Street store, not the manga one, cos the manga one is rubbish and tiny.
I'd agree on avoiding Forbidden Planet, it;s really not all it's cracked up to be.
Thanks for the advice, Saranga.

ReplyDeleteCheers, Joe. I'll have to try and fit it in - I doubt if one week will be enough :-)

ReplyDeletei love westminster tube station! it's all furturistic-y - lots of glass and steel (aluminum?) around and really nicely planned out.

And Poricullis House, you know the building right next to the Tube Station? Easily one of my most-loved buildings. In. The. World.
